Weird thing about that “Engrish check”: I’d guess it’s that “I’d rather had you get hit too.” line. It sounded wrong in my head when I read it the first time, then I read it again and realized it’s perfectly correct. A native speaker would probably have phrased it differently, but it’s fine just as it is.

@ Denny & Stonefoot: Speaking as a native English speaker, “I’d rather (that) you had gotten hit too” or “I’d rather (that) you had gotten hit as well” would sound less clumsy. (Then again, my education dates from the late 1960s to the mid 1970s and the language has changed a bit since then; so YMMV…)
